Silver Northumberland
Working in partnership with The Sage Gateshead, and a number of other partners, we are developing new opportunities for older people to sing together in the daytime. We now have Northumblerland groups running in Morpeth, Alnwick, Seaton Sluice and most recently Ashington. Singers do not need to be able to read music, but the groups sometimes work with printed music.
The start up of the Alnwick and Seaton Sluice groups was funded by Fishnets. Our new group in Ashington, which started in January, is run in partnership with Age Concern Northumberland. We hope to establish another in Northumberland between now and March 2011.
For further information about the groups in South Shields and Stanley, and a prospective group in Easington, please contact the Silver Programme at The Sage Gateshead. silver@thesagegateshead.org 0191 443 5034
Singing improves health and well-being for many people, and this is particularly true for older singers. Regular singers experience improved breathing, stronger core muscles, better concentration, feeling happier, and a general sense of well-being. There is also a sense of belonging, and the enjoyment of meeting new people and making friends.
All the groups welcome new singers - why not come along to the first session in the autumn term and try out your voice?
