Training Opportunities for Vocal Leaders
Sing Up has contracted 20,000 Voices to run two vocal development days for people who sing with children and young people. These days are suitable for vocal leaders, teachers, music co-ordinators, non-teaching staff, governors and parents.
The first session on Tuesday 18 November was led by Beth Allen, who looked at vocal health and technique, voice care, and introduced us to some lively and accessible unison repertoire.
The second session - 'Get them singing, keep them singing' - is on Friday 24 April and will be led by Jo McNally, who will introduce a wide variety of repertoire suitable for children aged 5 - 9. There will be songs for the classroom, for the car, for the school bus and much more besides.
'Jo McNally is one of America's best exports to the UK, and anyone who has had the privilege of seeing and hearing her work in a hall full of children and adults will confirm that she is a truly inspirational figure in live music education. If you can't have her vivid presence, the next best thing is surely this compilation of some of the repertoire she uses with pupils at KS1 . . . The variety of the 32 songs in the collection is broad and impressive . . . The Warm Up and Stomp Canon does much more than help children 'keep the beat'; as they stomp and click and circle and flick, they will be involved physically, mentally and emotionally. Like much else here, the song is pretty well irresistible.' Tom Deveson, Music Teacher April 07
