Rural Uplands - Open Workshops

Rural Uplands is a programme of vocal workshops and activities for children and adults.  All the events will take place in the upland areas in and beyond Rothbury.

The focus of the project is the culture and landscape of rural uplands areas, explored through the medium of song.

These two open workshop is for adult singers who are interested in exploring the culture, landscape and traditions of the Coquet Valley in songs from the rural upland areas of northern Britain.

The workshops will both be facilitated by Kathy Anderson. The May workshop features the singing of Penni Blythe Jones, who will share some songs collected from well-known local singer, Hannah Hutton. This session is hosted by Coquet Singers, who will be rehearsing and performing some of the songs during the summer. Singers who attend the workshop are also welcome to sing with the choir during the summer term.

The workshop on 17 June will feature local singer Graham Dick, who is a shepherd in Tynedale, but originally comes from the Coquet Valley.  Listen to the wonderful evocative songs from the area, and then learn to sing them with the group.
