A Taste of Summer

These workshops aim to fill the singing vacuum in the summer months.  Our four leaders will each lead a themed workshop - a whirlwind tour of a particular style of singing. They are all experienced workshop leaders, indulging in their own particular musical passion!

Gospel / Faith Songs
with Mona Zeidan
Tuesday 20 July
Trinity Methodist Church, Gosforth, NE3 4AG

Mona Zeidan spent a good part of 2009 visiting faith groups in the region and learning songs and chants used in religious and social contexts. In this session she will introduce some of the repertoire she learned and arranged for choirs, including a couple of her own gospel arrangements.

Easy Classical
with Ed Aldcroft

Ed Aldcroft will lead a workshop for anyone who has ever wondered what a madrigal is, or wanted to have a go at singing classical settings of sacred and secular music. The material will be music written for 3 or 4 parts.

Juliette Tate will teach two or three easy, well known pop/rock songs with harmonies. The workshop will be fun, relaxed and suitable for all.

Songs in Portuguese

Sophia Castro
will introduce songs in Portuguese – which might include material from Portugal, Brazil, or Cape Verde – and will also look at an example of traditional Portuguese Fado singing.

All singers welcome.  You don't need to have any experience of singing any of these styles.  You can come to as many as you wish.  Buy 3 get one free - if you can come to them all!
